Me, talking about Wolfbreed – and Signings

October 7, 2009

Back when I did my signing at the Learned Owl, I did a short interview about Wolfbreed. Here is me being all authorial and stuff.

Speaking of signings, this weekend I will be over at Joseph Beth Booksellers at Legacy Village. I will be joined by Don Bruns, Linda Robertson and Casey Daniels. Yes, you get 4 authors for the price of one.  The authorial extravaganza happens October 10th at 2pm, be there if you want to be one of the cool kids. Directions here.

Since you alluded to the ending, could you elaborate a little on why you went with the “upbeat ending” instead of a tragic ending? For most of the novel, I was anticipating a gut-wrenching tragedy with how you had interacted the characters in the flashbacks and the level of hell that you were putting them through (but, I admit that dragging the protagonists through the seven levels of hell is a bit of a trademark for your novels no matter what the ending). Was this planned from the beginning or did you agonize over this?

The original ending was a tad more ambiguous, and, in fact I didn’t know for sure that Lilly would survive the penultimate chapter until I wrote it. I decided against killing her off because that would have been a cop-out. The last scene could have gone in several directions, and Anne over at Spectra nudged me in the direction I went. It required a little re-writing of Uldolf, as he doesn’t have an easy task in that scene.
